Sleeping Children Around the World Highlighted at Circle of Friends
On November 6, parishioner Norma Rookwood addressed the ladies gathered for Circle of Friends. Norma was part of the team distributing items through Sleeping Children Around the world. A slide presentation of her trip was shown and Norma spoke about her experiences.
Sleeping Children Around the world is a global community of volunteers and supporters giving hope and joy to children in need by providing bedkits for a good night’s sleep.
Since its founding by Murray and Margaret Dryden in 1970, Sleeping Children Around the World has helped nurture the potential of children, raising over $60 million for bedkits in 36 countries. 54 years later, their global community of volunteers has helped over 1.8 million children. Each $40 donation provides one bedkit consisting of: mat or mattress and bedding, mosquito net to prevent malaria, school supplies, clothing. Bedkit contents vary from country to country depending upon local needs. Our parish contributed to this effort through the Little Brown Jug and individual fundraising.
Circle of Friends meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 11 a.m. in the parish hall. The ladies enjoy catching up with each other, a nutritious hot lunch is enjoyed followed by a craft. A freewill offering basket is available to help offset costs.
